Something Borrowed It’s the big day and the rustic, elegant charm of The Barn at the Ackerhurst Dairy Farm offers you a truly unique setting in a one of a kind event venue. The beautiful Dutch Gambrel style barn was built in 1935. A businessman and dairy farmer from Boston named Anthony W. Ackermann hired Adolph Otte who was an architect and builder from the nearby town of Elkhorn, NE., to construct the barn. Upon its completion, the Ackerhurst Dairy Barn was described as the largest barn in Nebraska. The barn is rectangular in shape and is constructed of wood with a concrete block foundation. The Barn is nearly two hundred feet long, as long as a twenty-story building is tall. The Barn, though constructed as two levels, is as tall as a four-story building. In a newspaper article in the Omaha World Herald it was described that the Ackerhurst Dairy was “one of finest dairy farms in the Midwest”. Little did Mr. Ackermann know back in 1935 that his dream would someday become a location responsible for the beginning of a lot of dreams.
